I always find myself very interested in looking for home organizing products. Every time my husband asks me where I want to go after we go to church or after our lunch date, my answer will be, “I want to go to Michael’s”, “I want to go to HomeGoods”, “I want to go to HobbyLobby” or “I want to go to The Container Store”.
After hearing my answer, my husband never fails to ask me, why? Do we need something? And I will tell him “no, we don’t need anything, I just want to look around”.
It’s always fascinating to me to see all of the small kitchen organization products that we can use to efficiently use the space that we have, make our things organized and most of all, make our living easier.
A simple container set, sliding drawers storage that you put in very narrow spaces, different kinds of cabinet storage bins, baskets and many other small kitchen organization products can change the way you function in your space.
Learning About Storage Solutions
When we bought our first house, which was around 2800 sq. ft home, storage was not really a problem. We had a large kitchen and a very big walk-in pantry. We had a lot of counter space, cabinets and shelving, that’s why we only bought a few organizing products since we did not really need them.
Then, after 2 years, we sold this home because we realized that 2800 sq. ft was more space than the two of us needed. Plus, the house was just too far from everything.
So, we leased a condo while we were looking for a house to buy and after two years of searching, we finally found a house that we could call home!
The house was 1100 sq.ft., built in the 1950’s and a total fixer upper. It only had one full bathroom and kitchen that looked like it was still in the 1950’s.
As stated above, the house was a total fixer upper. This means we basically had to redo almost every aspect of the house. In fact, we completely gutted the house. This included:
Opening up the Kitchen – We removed and replaced all of the dated kitchen cabinets, removed and replaced old appliances, tore down a wall to open up to the dining area, removed and replaced all flooring. We also added recessed lighting in the kitchen.
Remodeling and Adding a New Bathroom – We remodeled the two existing bathrooms and added a whole new full bathroom upstairs.
On top of these things:
- We removed and replaced all doors
- Removed and replaced all molding and trim
- Added all new flooring in the whole house
- All new lighting and fixtures
- Tore down the back wall and added two sliding glass doors
- Removed and replaced staircase going upstairs
- Finished basement
- Painted the entire inside and outside of the house
- Replaced roof and added new gutters and siding
It took our constructor 5 months to complete the whole project. We were very happy with the result and the house was turned into a completely different house. It went from an old dated house to become a beautiful home.
Although we love the look of our newly remodeled house, the size is less than half of what we used to have. This means we have less storage area, smaller refrigerator, less cabinet space, less counter space and less of everything that we used to have.
I knew from that point forward, I needed to be creative and resourceful in order to fit all of the things that we had into our new home. I also needed to think of ways that I could efficiently use the space since it was so much smaller.
The kitchen was the most challenging area for me. I want my kitchen countertop free as much as possible and I want to have a neat and organized kitchen. This was a bit harder with the smaller kitchen.
So, I started looking for small kitchen organizing products that would help me to maximize the use of the space without putting anything on the countertop.
It didn’t take me long to realize that looking for and finding small kitchen organization products that would fit into certain cabinet dimensions was very time consuming and often very frustrating.
There were times that I finally found what I needed, but when I looked at the product’s dimensions, I realized it would not fit inside the cabinet. So I needed to keep looking until I found exactly what I needed.
When you have a small kitchen, everything needs to be smaller, so when buying organizing products for a small kitchen, you’re not only looking for its functionality, but its product dimensions as well.
Product dimensions are a very important factor when looking for an organizing product especially if you only have 105 sq.ft kitchen or less.
You do not want to buy an organizing product that will not fit inside your cabinet or shelf because it will be of no help in achieving organized space in your home. It will only end up on the counter which will then become an eyesore or start to clutter the space.
Small kitchen organization products should be the right size to efficiently utilize your precious space as well as to create a space for everything that is important to you. (Note: most of the time you will not be able to find the perfect size product to fit inside the cabinet, if this happens, you need to be creative to find ways to maximize the space)
Small Kitchen Organization Product List With Dimensions
All of this led me to come up with a list of products that will fit certain kitchen cabinet or shelf sizes. You only need to know the dimension of the section of your cabinets or shelf (the depth, the width and the height) and choose the product that you need for that category. You can combine different products that are listed to fit into the opening depending on what items you are looking to store.
